Laptop problems
« on: March 08, 2003, 07:14:38 pm »
Any ideas what would cause (other than a bad connection at the board) this problem:

- one of the 2 usb ports does not respond to some devices I connect.

- when the good port is in use and you attempt to use the other port, occasionally the machine will reboot.

-funny enough, some simple devices it will recognize, gamepad.....

I tried searching to see if others had similiar problems, but no luck!  Com-crap presario 1520....

BTW - If it goes in for service, under contract of coarse, I'm pulling out the hard disk!  Im not taking chances on them thinking its a software conflict and screwing up my stuff.....  Its done this since day one, but its becoming very annoying recently.

I'm thinking either a power supply issue or a bad solder point on the board?

Also, sometimes the screen dims and takes awhile to brighten up.....  Think I'm looking at a bad screen too?

Any ideas?

Hint: Sound in bios.
Win2k and Soundblaster enable in bios. Did we cover that before...
Some devices not working dosnt = a bad soldier point.
Try poping in a USB hub with the power supply on.
I know its a newer Compaq so it should support all devices in the USB but keep in mind what your running in the first USB is it eating all the USB support up

An inconvenience, but if you want to make omelettes, you have to break some eggs.
