Need help tweaking ADSL connection
« on: August 19, 2008, 04:32:49 pm »
Advertised speeds are 7mbs dl / 2 mb up. I have a GNET viking modem: BB0060B

I only get 110kbs max dl and 30kbs max up. I do not use a router.

download unzip this tool run it type 1500 in the box click ok ,or save chnages ,and after it saved reboot the computer take another analyzer
If you have the manual for the modem check to see if it has an mtu  function if so change it to 1492

Ok, I downloaded the program and set MTU to 1500 and applied changes and restarted comp. Here is the results:

I noticed that the MTU didn't change so the second thing I did was go into my ADSL modem and change MTU to 1492 (originally at 1500) and here are the results:

and also, I do not connect through PPPoE.
Any more ideas?

Ok well if you are not on pppoe   change the mtu back to 1500 sorry about that assumed that you did is there an mru ,or an mss seting in the modem if so mru is 1500 mss is 1460.

try this too see if it's stuck in the registry ,and make sure mtu discovery is 1
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283165

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
\EnablePMTUDiscovery

PMTU Discovery:  0 or 1 (Default = 1)

Data Type:  DWORD

reboot the computer after make the reg changes take another analyzer.

Ok, modified the registry and rebooted setting PMTU Discovery:  1.
This is the new report:

Strange thing I found out, I went back into the registry, and
PMTU Discovery:  0
but before the restart, i set it to 1 so it switched back  ???
so i guess this is the problem?

oh and for the modem, i found no mss setting... but I took some screenies that may be of some use...
