Title: Comcast Transition of attbi accounts to began!
Post by: Buggyman on April 18, 2003, 09:24:26 am
Those of us who where on attbi when it was bought out by comcast are moving into the transition from attbi to comcast.
It will prove to be interesting because when we transit from media one over to attbi it was a disaster.
They are using Transition software that supposly will make things easier. I will keep ya'll posted on how that comes out.
The transition is to take place on June 30th 2003 with a forwarding of the old addy til December 2004.
So...
Time will tell.
Anybody else here going throught this as well?
I'm sure the Excellent Team here at DSLnuts will be able to help with any question you may run accross.
I'm myself will post any problems I enconuter during this process.
Let me hear from you!

In This case (Chicago) Its not Cramcast its ATTbi's fault
Everytime a Comcast person does something a Attbi idiot plays with it.
You can upgrade your connection to business connection from Comcast in a month or so and you wont have the problems anymore. Cause you'll get a direct line to call.. This is chicago now. Attbi does not offer business connections in IL yet
I was able to get one of the first to a office in Chicago.
It went down once because a FOOL from the exsisting ATTbi people turned it off and suspended the account without reading that there was a contract on the connection ;D
I have a feeling once ATTbi quits acting like GOD and lets Comcast work it will get better.

Well... My first headache has began.  ::)
I'll lose my Buggyman account because the Buggyman is already in use at comcast  :(
So... the search for a New ID (I still have my original Personal one, no problem with it) and I still have my dslnuts one anyway.  ;)
So.. any sugestions for a new e-mail name?

So what your saying is everyone on the site should ask Buggyman@comcast.net to give up his name since yours is copywrited.  ;D
Your buddy probably took it. As far as giving buggy a new name I think everyone should PM the new name to him. This way his Stalker wont take the good ones

Do they keep the pricing the same once you are on Comcast? :o

Do they keep the pricing the same once you are on Comcast? :o
Pricing seems to stay about the same with Comcast and in areaīs like IL where comcast took over now businessīs are supported Where ATTbi didnt have a clue on how to support business in Chicago. Comcast seems to do a better job in that.
The network seems to stay up here better under Comcast where ATTbi would go down with the hint of Rain or Snow.  So they could save on bandwidth. The only problem with Comcast is the switch over seems to take forever and programming changes on the TV end of things and not for the best here. Like now we have that network that shouldnt be called a network called "Oh" and way to much FOX.
Also under the New contract with Chicago Comcast has to answer the phones in under 30 seconds and install times have to be kept or the install is Free ;D But I found that if there not sure on the fix you might end up calling several phone numbers to get the right person So take notes and numbers while being transfered  ;)

First off.. Comcast has "said" there will be no cost increase at this time. (don't they all say that?  ;) )
Comcast is making money by being smart. What they are doing is reviewing all the accounts against what the customer is paying for.
For an example..
When I signed up for the cable TV and then the High Speed Internet under a special with AT&T. it was a a special that I got 50 channels for 19.95 a month for three month. At then end of the special I called them and said I didn't want the expanded package. (I actually was getting the expanded plus the movie channels because the installer put the wrong filter.
Anyway
They reduce the bill to reflex what I ordered..but never change the filter. I was getting all the stuff for 14 bucks a month for TV and $40 a month for the Internet. I even did a follow up call reminding them about it. (yeah I know I'm too honest)
Then along comes Comcast.
One week after they took over they left a door tag on my door informing me that I was recieving service that I wasn't paying for and they made the corrections. If I wanted to get the extra service to call them and order it.
This is the differance between Comcast and AT&T.
They did a write up about Comcast here in town and commented that the revenues were up just by cracking down on the accounts. Many opted to for the added channel. But now they HAVE to PAY For it.  :o
LOL
But also the actual connections ARE better under Comcast. Like Dannjr mentioned. It use to be that if it rained.. you either lost your connection or it slowed down to a 56k modem speed (and that's awful) to date.. I've not had a slow down yet. EVEN now that the kids are out of school and doing their massive downloading stuff.  ;)

So ..all in all?
I'm impress with how Comcast is doing.
Now we'll see how they handle the e-mail addy transition.

LOL.. I tell yah Hayc59.. yah got me thinking about that.
So when I went to pay my cable bill today.. I asked the guy at the counter. This is what he said.
Whne you install the transition wizard it allows comcast to download the stuff need to make the transition to comcast. Once that's done.. there is an uninstaller that will be advailable once transition is complete.
I think I have an Ideal what they mean. But not sure how to explain it.
One way to think about it.. if you had AOHell then you can remember all them little updates that were automaticly done when you were trying to log off.
But it sounds like we have to wait til the transition starts.
That's the best I can say at this point.

Hum.. I found this.. maybe it will ease your mind.

Does the Transition Wizard send any information about me to Comcast?

No. The Transition Wizard will run each time your computer starts up, until the server side activation for the Wizard is set after July 1st, 2003. The Wizard does not contain any personally identifiable information about you or your PC and will not transmit any information to the Comcast servers. When the server-side application is activated, you will be prompted with a series of screens and the Wizard will automatically convert your Outlook Express and Internet options to work with the Comcast High-Speed Internet Service.

Here's a whole list of questions and answer they give.

Why do I have to download the Transition Wizard?
In order to properly and fully utilize all of the Comcast.net services, your system must be configured with new Outlook Express settings and the self-healing support agent. Comcast offers many services through its portal, which can only be accessed with a Comcast.net username. Please go to http://connect.comcast.net to download the Transition Wizard.

i dont like the self healing idea to much?? >:(

If you're not comfortable with using the wizard. Just wait and call them for the needed info.

Transition =
mail settings thats all you need.
smtp.comcast.net

If me wrong let me know but I just signed up a new Business customer and they only needed the smtp settings

The only thing I would add is the transition wizard is (supposely) going to set up the forwarding as well.
Changing the setting is nothing to me.. but I'm just interested in seeing if they succeed in doing it without any problems. ;)
Hayc59.. if you haven't activated it yet.. you can remove it. No sweat.

No... what happens is you download the software to your desktop. Once there you double click it to install it. A little window will pop up with one of them three mile long legal agreements list. Once you accept it then it will install itself on the Puter. Nothing running or no Icons.. It's just waiting for activation by comcast.
I guess each time you boot ups the puter.. it calls Comast to find out if it time yet. Once they say yes.. then you will get a series of screens, information and blah blah blah.
I was told by a comcast worker that once the transition is completed ..there will be an uninstaller for all that junk if you opt to do so. Mind you.. it was a worker that said that...not a Comcast Techie.
I did a search on the transition file and found it in the Temporary files, Content IE5 folder. It's listed as a configeration Settings file and is only 1KB in size.
So that's all I know at this point.
Will let ya'll know as soon as I find anything else out.

Well.. mine went without any problems I think LOL
I got up someone had booted my pc up before I got up  :o (I have fasmily in town.. but told them they could) I didn't think about the comcast deal when I told them that.
Anyhow.. the only thing I didn't like is that they made their Home page my current Browsers Homepage. No biggy.. just change it back to DSLNuts again. ;)
So Give Comcast credit.. they did the transition without a hitch. (as far as I know)

Let me here your story.

Well I also notice they installed Comcast on the Browsers Blue bar up top. But a quick fix and the was done.
I also lost my little road runner up in the top rught hand corner. It was set back to the Microsoft Globe. No biggy there either.
Hummm
That's a thought
Hey Dannjr!  ;)
Wonder what it would take to make a Jack in the box icon up in that runner corner to replace the MS Globe?

Give it a week before tweaking thier making other changes durring transitition and you might drive yourself crazy trying to tweak it.
You may run into a hicup with email more than just a hickup. But they have been allot more reliable here over ATTbi

Sorry Hayc,
I didn't have any problems at all. But they were saying some people here in town did. (I bet they thought downloading the transition wizard was all they had to do. BUT.. you had to double click on the set up to get it to run..  ;) )
I was gonna suggest powering down the modem for about 20 minutes and let it reset.. But I think Dannjr is right. Lay low for a week or two and then see what happens.
